Old News - Match Results 2007

23rd December 2007

The Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow, Furnace, Mill and Willow Pools this week.

We had a hard frost on Wednesday night which meant that the pools were frozen over on Thursday but they had thawed out nicely by Saturday morning. Saturday evening though saw a very sharp drop in temperature so Ed put the aerators on gently to keep the water moving but there was still quite a lot of ice around and with 40 anglers booked in for the match Ed had to run around clearing it away! It was very cold all day and this made conditions quite difficult as some ice started to form again.

For the second week on the trot Tim Jones, Golden Maggot, won the match. This time he was on peg 2 on Furnace Pool and landed 61 lb 2 oz. In second was Dave Johnson, Stevens Tackle, with 39 lb 5 oz from peg 5 and in third was Colin Matthews, on Mucky Meadow Pool with 30 lb 9 oz from peg 48. Forty fished.

The Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow, Mill and Willow Pools this week.

We have had hard frosts all week but this morning wasn’t too bad and there was a little ice on the water. The day remained very cold with a little sunshine early afternoon but the temperature dropped again at around 3.30 pm so the keep nets were starting to freeze as we weighed in!

Tim Jones, Golden Maggot, won the match from peg 70 on Willow Pool with 56 lb 2 oz. In second was Dean Homer, Vine Bateman, with 43 lb 7 oz from peg 78 and in third was Kev Williams, also on Mill Pool with 30 lb 14 oz from peg 76.

The Sunday Open was on Furnace Pool and Mucky Meadow Pools this week.

The weather forecast was for high winds and rain and although we had bad weather during the night and early morning by 11.30 am the sun was shining and the winds were quite calm. Weights were down this week compared to last and this was blamed on the huge rainfall in the last couple of days.

Dave Williams, Halesowen RBL, won the match with 24 lb 1 oz from peg 42 on Mucky Meadow and he was followed by John Knight, Willow Creek, with 23 lb 10 oz from peg 32. In third place was David Hobbis with 23 lb 3 oz from peg 50. The best of Furnace Pool was Colin Matthews with 20 lb 9 oz from peg 5.

The extremely strong winds made presentation difficult, particularly on Furnace Pool which didn’t frame this week. Dave Hobbis came in 5 th on Mucky Meadow and he also took the silver prize.

The Sunday Open was on Furnace Pool and Mucky Meadow Pool this week.  (It is nice to know that people do actually read this!  You might like to know it is wet and damp and cold this week - really gloomy in fact - bring back the snow!)

In first place was Mick Round, Old Dial AC, with 68 lb 6 oz from peg 5 on Furnace. Second place went to Chris Whitehouse, T & D, on peg 48 on Mucky Meadow with 54 lb 2 oz and in third place was John Knight, Willow AC, with 43 lb 6 from peg 50 on Mucky. John took quite a bit of stick after the last match but silenced a few this week!

The Sunday Open was on Furnace Pool and Mill Pool this week. We thought it was wet last week but this week was worse with cold winds and snow!  (As I write this - 1102 am Monday -I can see three inches of snow outside! Beautiful with quite a lot of blue sky and brilliant sunshine!)

Andy Buckley, Rod & Gun, won the match from peg 22 on Furnace Pool. He drew this peg last week and didn’t frame but the practice paid off as he landed 53 lb 2 oz. In second was Neville Groves, Fosters, with 46 lb 10 from peg 4 and in third was Dave Williams, Halesowen RBL, with 28 lb 10 oz from peg 85 on Mill.

Due to the number booking in this week the Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow, Furnace Pool and Mill Pool this week.

The forecast was for a dry afternoon but unfortunately although there were blue skies and sunshine at 11 am it didn’t last and the rain was particularly heavy from 2 pm onwards.

Nigel Marchington, Golden Maggot, won the match from peg 92 on Mill Pool. He fished maggot and pellet to land 52 lb 14 oz. In second was Dave Johnson, Stevens, with 48 lb 10 from peg 38 on Mucky Meadow and in third was Alvin Bell, Fosters, with 45 lb 7 oz from peg 36. Furnace Pool provided the top three weights last week, the best being John Newton with 69 lb 3 oz, this week he could only manage 4 th with 36 lb.

The Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow and Furnace Pool this week.

The weather had been quite mild during the week with the sunshine on Friday making it a very warm day for the time of year. The weather on Sunday was much more typical with a cold fog that lingered all day long.

John Newton, Furnace Mill, fished peg 8 on Furnace Pool. He fished pellet at 10 metres and landed 69 lb 3 oz. In second place was Kev Williams (for the fourth week in a row!) who fished peg 2 and landed 51 lb using corn at 14 metres. Martin Guest, T&D, had 48 lb 12 oz from peg 5. In fourth was Mark Isherwood on peg 25 with 47 lb 11 oz. In fifth place with the best weight on Mucky Meadow was 42 lb which included 13 lb of silver fish, this was Warren Jennings on peg 48.

Once again the Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow and Mill Pool. Dave Johnson, Stevens Tackle, came first with 86 lb 7 oz from peg 35 on Mucky Meadow, he was followed by Kev Williams, Wolverhampton , with 71 lb 6 oz from peg 54 and in third place was Dean Homer, Vine Batemans, with 63 lb 12 oz from peg 91. In fourth was Dave Williams with 63 lb 1 oz from peg 50 and Alan Gethin, Stevens, was in fifth with 54 lb 2 oz from peg 94.

The weather has been much milder this week with sunshine and showers during the open and the weights were much improved. Corn and maggot fished at 13 metres was effective. Pellet was also useful. Don’t forget at this time of year you don’t want to feed too much.

21st October 2007

The Sunday Open this week was the first open match of the Winter Accumulator. This format proved very popular last year as you don’t need to fish every match over the winter to qualify for the final . Poi nts are awarded to each competitor when they weigh in, please check out the website to see how the points are awarded.

The match was on Mucky Meadow and Mill Pool. John Newton, Furnace Mill, came first with 48 lb 10 oz from peg 36 on Mucky Meadow, he was followed by Kev Williams, Wolverhampton , with 47 lb 1 oz from peg 46 and in third place was Neil Gater, Batemans, with 30 lb 14 oz from peg 40. The best weight from Mill Pool was Mark Workman, Fosters, with 29 lb 10 oz.

The weather has been very cold this week with frosts on most mornings and these seems to have made the difference as last weeks catches were a lot better. I was told that it is very important to plumb the depth accurately at this time of year and to only use a little feed to get the fish competing; the best reported baits this week were pellet and worm.

Popular baits this week were pellet, worm and corn. Catches have been varied all week with some doing better in the morning and vice versa. Main tip is to plumb the depth accurately and feed very little at the moment to get the fish competing.

The Winter Accumulator starts next week, it will run as last year with points awarded to each competitor when they weigh in. It is not necessary to fish every match as the top thirty will qualify for the final, some anglers only fished once a month during the summer and still qualified for the Summer Final. Prizes will be awarded to the league winners and the winners of the final so there are plenty of opportunities.

SATURDAY 6TH OCTOBER sees the start of the Six Hour Special. This is a straightforward open match that anyone can enter, draw 9.30 am and fish 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.

The best baits this week were worm and caster and hook and feed pellet. Fishing just on the bottom with a nice balanced and delicate presentation with small amounts of feed should bag lots of silver fish. If you prefer to target the carp and the weather is cold look for the shoals of carp as sometimes they can be very visible try a large bait, either corn, 6 mm pellet or even a piece of bread flake with very little or no feed.

23rd September 2007

The Sunday Open this week was the Summer Accumulator Final. It was held on Mucky Meadow Pool and Furnace Pool. Unfortunately some of the qualifiers were unable to attend the final so there were only 19 fishing.

It had already been confirmed the week before that Kev Johnson, Kidderminster, Paul Cook, Stourport and Kev Williams, Wolverhampton had come 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd in the league but there was still plenty to play for in the final match.

With the nights drawing in the match was only 4 ½ hours instead of the normal 5. Some complained that they lost a lot of fish and should have weighed in a lot more.

The winner was Dave Williams who had drawn peg 54 three times on the trot and not done very well. When he drew it again he was a little disappointed but by changing his tactics he secured victory with 62 lb 4 oz of carp. In second was Mark Workman with 54 lb 7 oz from peg 49. In third place was Paul Cook with 51 lb 15 oz from peg 8 on Furnace pool and he was closely followed by Mike Faulkner with 50 lb 10 oz from peg 38. Lee Martin won the silver prize.

Another glorious week has kept the pleasure anglers coming and they have all reported good catches. The usual maggot, meat, cat meat and Furnace Feed Sinking Hookers are still producing, but the fairly new Dynamite Frenzied Meat is also showing good results with the spicy flavour doing slightly better than the garlic.

Lots of large carp are being caught in the margins and off the top with either Furnace Feed Floating Hookers or just that good old faithful – bread!

More sunshine this week has brought the pleasure anglers out and they have all reported good catches. Maggot, meat and cat meat fished over pellet and hemp are still producing, with the red pellet just having the edge over the green. The Furnace Mill 6 mm Expander pellets have been going well too.

Lots of large carp are being caught in the margins and plenty of silver fish are feeding up in the water.

The very welcome sunshine has brought the pleasure anglers out and they have all reported good catches. Maggot, meat and cat meat fished over pellet and hemp have been very effective. The Furnace Mill 6 mm Expander pellets have been going well too.

Lots of large carp are being caught in the margins and plenty of silver fish are feeding up in the water. Andy Newton’s silver catch was a good example of the superb bream we have at Furnace Mill.

To make a change the Sunday Open was on Mucky Meadow Pool and Willow Pool this week. Some anglers were hoping not to draw Willow because they favour Mucky but changed their minds when the top four came from Willow and proved once again that Willow should be shown more respect.

The top three were the same as last week with Paul Cook, Stourport, winning from peg 63 on Willow Pool with a catch of 120 lb 10 oz, he fished maggot over pellet. He was followed by Kev Johnson who fished paste on peg 61 and landed a catch of 80 lb 14 oz. In third place once again was Kev Williams, Wolverhampton, he used meat over hemp to catch 61 lb 14 oz from peg 44 and in fourth place was Paul Savings who was also on Willow Pool and landed 48 lb 6 oz from peg 58.
