The open was on the very popular Mucky Meadow Pool again this week. Another cold week loomed ahead with ice on all of the pools Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but the rain on Thursday and Friday soon melted it away.

Green 4mm feed pellet has been working well again this week. The 4mm brown expanders have been effective on the hook but the larger 6mm green or red expanders have also been catching plenty of fish. Corn and meat have also been good baits. Some of the carp were a little shy this week with the drop in temperature but quality roach have been showing instead.

Everyone commented that the fishing was harder in this match, some blamed the wind direction some blamed the slight frost we had on Friday night. We also had to knock ½ an hour off the match due to the fading light. 21 fished the match.

2 nd Kev Williams MCM Meat peg 53 37-9-0
3 rd Kev Johnson Mark’s Tackle peg 46 34-7-0
Pretty much the same as last week for tactics, make sure you plumb the depth accurately and fish just touching bottom and keep feeding regularly. The red 4mm Furnace Feed Pellet may just have the edge at the moment with corn, meat and soft pellet on the hook.
We have had lots of visitors from the north again this week and they have reported good catches from around the fishery. Maybe Willow has the edge still, although Mill has also been producing some great catches from around 8 metres out and in the margins.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to catch his name but a young man (maybe 8 or 9yrs) caught a beautiful 12 ½ lb carp off Willow on Sunday, I had joked with him that he had no chance of catching anything because his dad kept sending him to buy coffee and sandwiches! If you are that young man (or his Dad) and you have a photo of the fish please email me and I’ll either put it up in the club house or on our website for you!

The FURNACE MILL FISHERY open was held on Mucky Meadow Pool this week. Andy Newton, Shimano Tipton VDE, was the winner off the very successful peg 38. He landed 85 lb of quality fish using pellet 8 metres out. Second was Chris Senter off peg 45 with 71 lb 14 oz and third went to Kev Williams on peg 50 who also managed to win the silver prize with 14 lb 2 oz of quality roach and bream. 22 fished the match.
The nights are drawing in now but the open is still an afternoon/evening match so we need to draw on time to avoid losing match time to the light.
Sunday Open
1 st Andy Newton Shimano Tipton VDE peg 38 85-0-0
2 nd Chris Senter Alan’s Tackle peg 45 71-14-0
3 rd Kev Williams MCM Meat peg 50 49-5-0
4 th Ian Benbow Furnace Mill peg 54 41-6-0
Pleasure catches have been good again this week. John and Tracey Smith from Bridgnorth caught some quality fish from Mucky Meadow. They fished Furnace Feed Pellet and using sinking hookers, corn and meat they landed loads of carp, tench and bream at medium range. We have also had lots of visitors from Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester this week. They reported catches in excess of 150lb off Willow Pool.
The best approach here on any of the pools at the moment is to make sure you plumb the depth accurately and fish just touching bottom and keep feeding regularly. Furnace Feed Pellet with corn, meat and soft pellet on the hook are the best baits at the moment.

LOCAL LAD TURNS UP THE HEAT AT FURNACE AS THE FURNACE MILL MATCH RECORD IS SMASHED YET AGAIN!
The record created on 18 th July didn’t last very long! Local angler, Paul Cook from Stourport, landed an outstanding catch of 214 lb 13 oz. This beat the previous record held by Chris Senter of 205 lb 8 oz.
Mucky Meadow Pool hosted the match again. Kev Williams, from Codsall, beat his weight last week by 2 lbs but could only manage 3 rd place. Paul Cook who fishes for Mark’s Tackle, Raven Street , Stourport used pellet and paste to start, but found that his old favourite the white maggot was the most effective for him. Although he was catching regularly throughout the match it was after a very heavy shower and short lived thunderstorm that the fish went crazy particularly during the last hour.
Sunday Open
1 st Paul Cook Mark’s Tackle peg 54 214-13-0
2 nd Kev Johnson Mark’s Tackle peg 47 124-4-0

During the week Emily and Lois Brown, chips of the old block, having been tackled up by Ed caught lots of carp on Willow . The best fish was landed by 11yr old Emily which weighed in at 12 lb 2 oz. Both girls used red and green feed pellets and sinking hookers with a squirt of strawberry.
The fishery is on fire and everyone is bagging!

After the barbecue lunch and a few pointers from Ed and Matt they all continued to catch a variety of fish and all went away at about 8.30pm with smiling faces!
Hope you had a good day lads we enjoyed your visit too!

All the pools have been fishing well again this week. Willow has produced some excellent double figure fish, many of them being taken off the top and in the margins. We have had a lot of newcomers this week that we have sent in the direction of Mill Pool. They have all reported a variety of fish being caught. Furnace Pool has produced some good catches in the week with plenty of tench being caught. Mucky Meadow has been pretty consistent producing quality fish at varying depths. 4mm pellet seems to be the best feed with anglers fishing sinking or floating hookers over the top. Worm and meat have been effective on the hook.

The best feed bait at the moment is still Furnace Mill’s pellets with pellet, paste, corn and maggot working well on the hook. Although the open lads seem to favour the 2.5mm pellet a large number of pleasure anglers have found the red 4mm to be very effective. Howard Marshall from East Yorkshire fished peg 57 on Willow Pool and having caught plenty of fish off the bottom feeding the red pellet and fishing Furnace Feed sinking hookers he then switched to floaters catching numerous fish over 12 lb with the best weighing in at 22lb.
Anglers from Birmingham were initially despondent when they arrived on Wednesday to find that the only available pegs on Furnace were in the ‘canal section’. They left with huge smiles later that evening having had “the best days fishing for months!” Fish were caught on the far bank with the pole feeding pellet and fishing corn and sinking hook pellets.
