What a day, some of the lads wanted to watch a football match that was going on in South Africa so they decided to have a morning open match and forego their league points. 10 anglers took part and fished in the morning on Mucky Meadow Pool. 14 others probably made the right choice and didn't bother with the footie and had the league match in the afternoon on Mucky and Furnace Pools.

It has been hot at the Furnace this week with lots of fish being caught on the pellet on all the pools. The most productive way of presenting your bait is to plumb the depth accurately and have your bait just touching the bottom and then feed little and often. Some people see fish on the top or near the surface but this is only a tiny fraction of the population. If you want to fish up in the water you can adopt a different approach to encourage the fish to compete for the feed shallow, but you must get the feed pattern right, as all the really big bags of fish between 100 lbs and 200 lbs are caught with bait fished at exact depth. Steve Barnes from Dudley had non-stop action on peg 10 on Furnace landing 80 carp between 3 and 8 lb.

This weekend we had a Saturday Open and with 25 taking part it was on Mucky Meadow and Furnace Pools and split into 4 sections. Weights were evenly spread around the pools but the lower numbers on Furnace possibly had the edge producing 3 in the top 8. Fish were up in the water and in the margins falling to feed pellet fed little and often with meat fished over the top.
