The pools at Furnace Mill.

On this page you will find details about the four pools that we have available for fishing.

FURNACE POOL

30 pegs       Size: 1½ acres        Average depth: 6 feet.

Fish Selection:
Roach to 3lbs, tench averaging 1-3lbs, bream averaging 2-4lbs and up to over 12lbs, and crucian carp up to 3lbs. Common, mirror and ghost carp with average weights of 1½lbs to 5lbs with some commons and mirrors into double figures. Chub average 1-4lbs.

Baits:
In the summer the most successful baits are usually Furnace Feed pellets, hookers & paste, casters, chopped worm and red maggots.
In the winter try maggots, pellets, bread, corn and worm.

Methods:
The most popular are pole or rod fished waggler.
In the summer the fish are caught at varying depths but most of the big catches are from the margins and the far bank on the narrow section.
The fish tend to stay on the bottom in the winter but look out for them nearer to the surface on bright sunny days.

It costs £110.00 to hire this pool for a contest for five hours.

MUCKY MEADOW POOL

24 pegs       Size: 1¼ acres        Average depth: 6 feet

Fish Selection:
Roach 3lbs, tench 3lbs, bream 3-4lbs and up to 12lbs, crucian carp 3lb, common carp average 3-6lb, mirror carp average 3-6lbs, ghost carp average 3-6lbs. Chub average 1½-3lbs. Also has golden orfe, perch and rudd.

Baits:
Best all year baits are Furnace Feed pellets, hookers & paste, caster, maggot, sweet corn, luncheon meat and chopped worm.

Methods:
Pole or waggler are most effective. In the summer a lot of carp are caught in the margins and chub can be caught on maggot fished just below the surface. A small swim feeder or light lead in the winter can be productive.

MILL POOL

20 pegs       Size: 1 acre        Average depth: 5½ feet

Fish Selection:
Roach to 3lbs, tench averaging 1-3lbs, bream averaging 2-4lbs and up to over 8lbs, and crucian carp up to 4lbs. Common, mirror and ghost carp with average weights of 1½ lbs to 4lbs with some ghosties up to 15lbs, and a lot of golden orfe that provide good                                                                                      sport in the winter.

Baits:
Furnace Feed pellets, hookers & paste, corn, worm, caster, maggot or bread.

Methods:
Pole or waggler.

WILLOW POOL

20 pegs       Size: 1 acre       Average depth: 7 feet

Fish Selection:
Roach to 2½ lbs ,tench averaging 1-3lbs, bream averaging 2-4lbs and up to over 8lbs, and crucian carp up to 3lbs. Common, mirror and ghost carp with average weights of 1½ lbs to 5lbs and some up to 25lbs. Chub average 1-3lb.

Methods:
Pole or waggler. Margins are very productive.

Baits:

Furnace Feed pellets, hookers & paste.  Caster or maggot fished up in the water work very well.
