The micro pellet is still working very well both as a feed and damped down into a paste and used on an in-line feeder with a hair rigged pellet. On the hook the expanders are proving popular with the open anglers but pleasure anglers are opting for the ready prepared hookers. Corn and maggot fished over the red 2.5 mm pellet has produced steadily only light feeding required.

Ed and Jane would like to thank everyone for supporting them throughout 2009 and hope that you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Best baits this week were pellets, paste, meat and corn. We have a new hard pellet which we have added to our range, we have 8 and 10 mm at the moment which need to be banded or hair rigged. Early indications show they are very effective. Plenty of good quality roach are being caught on caster up in the water but the big bags of carp are generally being caught at dead depth. Open anglers reported better catches out in the water although some fish were caught in the margins.

There were 18 qualifiers but due to holiday commitments some were unable to fish.

In 4 th and 5 th places were Iwan Mills with 32 lb 9 oz and Dean Sheldon on peg 15 with 26 lb 12 oz, they were both placed in a good position as they then drew the fancied pegs 38 and 51 on Mucky Meadow.

The best baits this week were pellet, maggot and macaroni.  The fish were feeding all over the place, the same anglers reported catching up in the water and off the bottom, also in the margins and out at 8 metres so there was no consistency.  We had had a hard frost the night before (-4) and the sun shone brightly for most of the day so the fish weren't quite sure what they wanted to do!

22nd March 2008

The last qualifying Sunday Open in the Winter Accumulator was on Furnace and Mucky Meadow Pools this week.  Not as breezy as last week it was a pleasant day with some sunshine inbetween the clouds.

In first place from peg 41 on Mucky Meadow was Mark Tooze, SBS, with 70 lb 1 oz. In second place was Steve Harris, Daiwa SBS, with 63 lb 2 oz from peg 32 and David Hobbis, Vine AC came third with 59 lb 2 oz from peg 25 on Furnace. He was closely followed by Kev Williams, Wolverhampton, with 58 lb 8 oz from peg 38.

The final places in the league were decided today with John Newton and Neville Groves both tied at the top with 321 points so all they needed to do was beat one another as they were ahead of the rest of the pack. Steve Harris knew that he had finished in 3 rd place but David Hobbis and Dean Sheldon were only one point apart for 4 th . John managed to beat Neville by two points and David beat Dean by 13 points.

Worm and caster seems to have worked well this week as have 4 mm expanders fished over 2.5 mm feed pellet. Maggot and sweet corn are also in the running. Anglers have fished 8 metres down the side and approx 13 metres out fishing dead-depth. Usual tactic little and often with the bait to keep the fish competing.

Paul Cook weighed-in 1,628 lb 13 oz in total, in 19 matches.  This included his record breaking 255 lb 12 oz but he also had 2 other weights over 178 lb  and 2 more over 116 lb.  He did have 2 poor matches weighing in 22 lb 3 oz and 20 lb - but hey is only human!

He averaged 85.7 lb per match. He beat his closet rival by 44 points.

Dave Williams weighed-in 1,219 lb 11 oz in total, in 18 matches.  He had 3 weights over 100 lb. His best was 125 lb 3 oz and his worst was 7lb.  He averaged 67.7 lb per match.

Mucky Meadow pool was used for the Sunday Open this week. It was very wet here on Saturday with persistent rain and although Sunday was drier the ferocious wind made it very difficult for bait presentation and most people either opted to not use the pole or just fish in close to maintain some control. In first place was Dave Williams, Halesowen RBL, with 125 lb 3 oz from peg 47 he was closely followed by Kev Williams, Wolverhampton, with 121 lb 2 from peg 32 and in third was John Knight, Willow Creek, with 78 lb 13 oz from peg 53. We had the first of our Browning Youth Masters 2008 Qualifiers on Saturday 14 th June. It was great to see the young lads taking part, (come on girls!). The average age was 14 and they all did well. The star of the show was 13 year old Sam Hughes from Gloucester. He fished very well from start to finish and landed an impressive 83 lb 2 oz from peg 54. He had never been to the fishery before and Ed Brown, fishery owner, said “I have never seen a youngster who is so dedicated and able as Sam, I think he has a very bright future in angling”. We will be holding further matches on Saturdays 21 st June, 26 th July and 2 nd August. The draw is at 10 am and fish 11 am to 4 pm. Pleasure anglers have reported good catches on all pools during the week, with plenty of baits working. Feed pellet is working well with worm, maggot or corn fished over the top. Plumb the depth accurately and fish your chosen bait just touching bottom. We now sell maggots and casters in addition to worm. Plenty of fish being caught off the top later in the day with either bread or the fishery floating hookers and expanders as feed.

We are holding a Browning Youth Masters 2008 Qualifier on Saturday 14 th June, places are filling up quickly so to avoid disappointment please email Jane as soon as possible. He caught all day long on peg 28 on Furnace using pole with pellet. He had a mixed bag of carp, tench, roach and bream and estimated his catch to be approx 200 lb. Rob Evans from Stourbridge had a great day on Mucky Meadow fishing scopex floaters on the surface landing fish between 4 and 12 lb.

Plenty of pegs available for pleasure fishing this coming weekend, let’s hope the sun shines as the Bank Holiday was rather wet.

Pleasure anglers have reported good sport off the top with the Furnace Feed Scopex floaters on the hook and expanders (not pumped) as feed, but match anglers have found feeding pellet and fishing meat, maggot or sinking hookers to be more effective. Lots of fish are being caught either up in the water or in the margins.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend we have plenty of fishing for pleasure anglers and the open will be a MORNING match draw at 8am fish 9am to 2pm. Please note this is NOT a league match. Everything back to normal 1 st June.

As I look out of the window with the sun beating down I can see plenty of fish taking surface baits. The natural expanders left as they are make a great floating bait with the floating scopex hookers on the hook. There has been some great sport this week surface fishing. If you prefer to fish on the bottom it is still the 4mm Furnace Feed pellet that is the most effective but lots of anglers have also been using the 6 mm – no particular colour is doing better than the other.

The temperature was much warmer compared to last week and the weights showed an improvement. Paul Cook, Mark’s Tackle Stourport, won the match with 116 lb 2 oz from peg 42 fishing pellet and maggot. In second was Tim Jones, Golden Maggot, with 99 lb 1 oz from peg 50 and he was closely followed by Chris Senter, Alan’s Tackle Worcester, on peg 52 with 90 lb 3 oz Fourth for the second week in a row was John Savings, Furnace Mill, with 85 lb 3 oz which was exactly 30 lb more than his catch last week. Peg 55 on Willow Pool is a hot peg at the moment as it won the match last week and produced the top weight on the pool this. 68 lb 2 oz could only make 6 th place but Martin Tayloe was happy to win his section.
